Stewey here are some figures for you to post next to Fr. Park Thiefs picture. I will be back with the total amount of tax dollars that the U of S has taken from this city in the last 25 years. Actually I will make sure it becomes an issue for the DiBileo's election. And dont give me that propaganda from them about being a large employer paying wage tax etc. This town is filled with true tax paying companies that don't moonlight as tax eating machines for Louie DeNaples like the U of S.
Here is what I have sent to the AG's office about your Jesuit Employer errmmmm I mean friends. The U of S buys land and then somehow has the assement reduced. They must have their own private place for hearings because I cant find any. What I dont understand is on some of the property they claim to have gotten reductions based on the fact that they tore down buildings. But when you tear down buildings the land assessment is a fixed rate based on frontal footage. If the land assessment is lowered from what it was before without a hearing that's a criminal offense and you cannot lower assessments on vacant land.
So Stewey you take the Complex I will sit back and watch the AG investigation and the U of S take the biggest mud bath ever. Fair trade? I think so.
And by the way Stewey why dont you tell the nice people of South Side the land grab plan that the U of S has for their neighborhood? I will make sure DiBileo has that master plan before the election. The real one from your backroom board room meeting with Uncle Louie not the PR one you hand out to your buddies the LIEnetts. I got it. And so will everyone else. Have you guys finalized the deal with the SRA for all that "other" land near the complex? Don't worry I wont tell. And best wishes on your recent purchase of Holy Cross. Just cause you have'nt recorded the deed doesnt mean we don't know the truth.
HERE YA GO STEWEY and by the way I am just getting started...

Study Shows Economic Impact of The University of Scranton Exceeds $246 Million Posted 18 August 2005
The University of Scranton recently presented the City of Scranton with its annual voluntary contribution of $110,000, contributions that have totaled more than $1.5 since 1983. Standing, from left are Scranton Mayor Christopher Doherty; Patrick Leahy, interim vice president of institutional advancement and executive assistant to the president; University of Scranton President Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.; Leonard Kresefski, business administrator for the City of Scranton; and City Council members Gary DiBileo, president, John Pocius, and William Courtright.A 2005 study by the Research Center of the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) estimates The University of Scranton’s annual economic impact in Pennsylvania totals $246,736,503.
The study was compiled for The University of Scranton in conjunction with a statewide report entitled “The Community and Economic Impact of Pennsylvania’s Independent Colleges and Universities.”
The report estimates that $102,806,876 can be attributed to the direct spending by The University of Scranton and those directly associated with the university. This figure includes $43,842,108 spent by The University of Scranton on goods, services and construction in 2003, which is the budget year used for the report. It also includes $58,964,768 in estimated spending by the university’s students, faculty, staff and guests.
The report also estimates The University of Scranton’s indirect and induced impact at $143,929,627, which takes into account the ripple effect that the university’s direct spending has on businesses and individuals that sell products and services to the university either directly or through subcontracted work.
The AICUP Research Center report also lists the $1,138,343 state payroll taxes and $705,155 municipal payroll taxes paid by The University of Scranton in 2003.
The report did not include the voluntary contributions made by The University of Scranton, such as the $110,000 voluntary contribution recently presented to the City of Scranton. Since 1983, the university’s voluntary contributions to the city have totaled more than $1.5 million. The University of Scranton also makes an annual voluntary contribution to Lackawanna County.
The report also did not include other economic benefits, including annual training and facility usage for hazardous incidents for members of the Scranton Fire Department, which provides a cost savings of $13,000 per year. The university’s Public Safety Department also provides training and facilities to the Scranton Police Department.
In addition to the direct and indirect economic impact, The University of Scranton also has a profound community impact. Students, faculty and staff of the university are annually involved in hundreds of community service and volunteer programs. Approximately 2,700 students provided more than 162,000 hours of volunteer service in 2004 alone. The value of a volunteer’s time has been assessed by the Independent Sector, a coalition of nonprofits, foundations and corporations, at $17.55 per hour for 2004. Using this figure, University of Scranton students have contributed services worth at least $2,843,100 to the local community and beyond.
The University of Scranton’s 54-acre hillside campus includes several athletic fields and tennis courts that are available for public use. The University of Scranton’s Physical Plant extends maintenance services and street cleaning to nearby Scranton city areas. For example, the university paints all crosswalks, as well as no parking areas on streets that border the campus.
Stewey (Jerry) Why sure there was an appeal filed. Stewey do you really think the plaintiff's should rely on a local judge? Not that Harrisburg ones are any better but I mean really how dumb could they be. That suit will be going on for another year at a minimum. I already wrote Phillips a check for the Supreme Court Appeal. So take your shoes off and relax for a while. Another of those obstructionists filed his own action as well. And now the bad news. A little birdie told me that even if the SRA does get Mellow to make the Harrisburg Judges dance to Louies tunes that there are already papers drawn up to name the U of S as a party to the suit or perhaps bring a separate action against the Jesuits. A little fact finding might reveal a great deal. Like maybe the meeting from the Board of Directors at the U of S and the members of that Board who voted for the sale. Gee do you think any members of the Lynett family will make that list? The South Side Complex will not be sold and will be a substantial reason that Doherty gets bounced.
As for the U of S plans for the Complex I dont think anyone doubts that the U of S is really going to build athletic fields. The real attraction is the proximity to the other 60 Acres of campus and the fact that Mr. DeNaples, his cronies (Rossi) (Scartelli) and the SRA controls much of the land adjacent to the complex. Thats were the real deal is. Ironically the SRA is about to sell some land. Did you know Stewey (Jerry) that great deal of that land is near the complex? Of course you did you knew that before Doherty got elected. But dont worry I wont be showing anyone what I got to prove all that...well until about three-four weeks before the election that is.
As for your redundit post replete with picture well Stewey you can keep doing that all you want. Everyone knows that the U of S is nothing more than a huge part of the DeNaples machine. Duck Stewey you are about to get a face full of well deserved mud. And it will be mud that will show up from here to New Jersy to Philly where you suck money from the parents of the wealthy kids.
If you didnt get greedy you could have just kept slowy eating the hill section away. But now you did it. Have you heard from the AG yet about those assessment reductions? You will be soon I spent some time at the courthouse with an assitant a few weeks back he has almost all the pieces. They were intrigued to say the least. Wathc those federal grant dollars as well the inspector general takes that **** seriously from what I hear. Oh an Jerry don't forgt about your obligations under disclusre laws for non-profits. Remember you have to disclose your lobbying activities. I think one may have slipped your mind. i wouldnt want anyone to report you
I see another member of your board has fallen by some hard times as well. Say Hi to Mr. Sherwood for me. Sorry but thats one I cannot take credit for but you will remember the impact for years to come. Nothing like exposing the society of Jesus as the white collared thugs they really are. Your pride restored yet? Keep it up Jerry you motivate me.
Call me we can do lunch. Or not. Steven King wrote a book...the perfct storm? What was the villans catch phrase? There is your salvation Jerry.
Oh and by the way, it didn't even make trial last time around so what makes you think you will see anything different this time around? Phillips should be putting his energy into getting a lighted field in another part of the city rather than delaying the sale of the Complex.
I'm not that familiar with the rules regarding property tax reduction. However, I know that the owner of the former Price Chopper on Oak St in Scranton tore the building down to reduce his taxes. Also, several people that I know had their property tax reduced by appealing it at the courthouse. I know they did NOT have to attend a hearing. I believe some board decides. They just went to the courthouse to compare their taxes with similar properties in the area. If it was out of line they appealed and won. Doesn't your assesment change based on major improvements i.e. additions, garages ? Not sure myself.
Complex litigation did not make the appeal process in Harrisburg because of a technicality which was then dismissed by a Judge with ties to Doherty. Greco is horrified to go to court on the merits. Ask him yourself.
As for your contention about the students from the university benefitting from the theft of the park by next year, you couldnt be more wrong. Mellow is busy in Harrisburgh trying to find an agreeable Judge. When it gets booted Phillips has the complaint drawn and is waiting to file in Federal Court against the U of S. Discovery is going to be an interesting process for Fr. Pilarz, McShane and Doherty. Mark my words...oh and lets not forget the pending "investigation" That outta smoke out some rats also. But you keep dreaming.
Sounds great, and I really like the "revaluations" of U/S land. The county is always sold down the river. Will the real candidate use these figures to take on the "boys". Will the local sheep push back while they are at the edge of the cliff. Or will the editors of the Times read the NY times and push Bush bashing stories from Paul Krugman, ignoring our local dilema?. The real problem is here in our county. Wise up and learn. This post is a terriffic start!!!
