The Fishwrap of Scranton

Anyone actually 'get the paper'? I won't allow it to be brought into my home... My decision. That rag should be an embarasment to the newspaper industry..

I feel much the same way about the Erie Times News.  It is inaccurate, misspelled, and frequently a day behind on national news.  The classified pricing is ridiculous.  I wish there were another comprehensive choice in my town.

So what do you think of the Times and the Tribune merging into one paper? Think it'll improve it? Or will that just make it one less paper for you to not buy?

I'm looking into filing a complaint with the American Journal Review about the Scranton Times. People are falling off their subscription list by the hundreds. They openly support Doherty and will only report favorable issues.

We had another newspaper attempt to break into the market, called the Plain Speaker. After their first issue, the mayor's sister, Virginia MacGregor, contacted all the advertiser's and they withdrew their ads from that paper. Mr. Hart will tell you exactly what happened.

Then, just before the election, another newspaper was distributed, without advertising called For the People, By the People. Got great reception, and I think another issue is being planned.

The Times also allowed Doherty to distribute campaign flyers with a false headline on it just like they did for the Casey incident. It seems as though there should be some sort of board that oversees the ethical behavior of newspapers. Also, the Times are large contributors to Doherty's campaign. That is also very unethical and compromises the information that should be published in a newspaper to inform the public of all issues, including adverse to the mayor. They intentionally ignored publishing a story about raw sewage that was being dumped onto open fields and into a river from the Nay Aug Park. The public was walking through it and picnicing, and kids playing and walking in this sewage, and the newspaper didn't find it fit to warn the public about the dangers of e-coli. Of course, the mayor was responsible for that since he recently renovated that park, dumping (no pun intended) more than $2 million into it, so they didn't print it.
