Usually when you run for President you have to have some significant accomplishments. Rendell really hasn't gotten a whole lot of impressive things done as Governor. I don't think that he is a bad Governor, but he hasn't been a spectacular one either. It is quite fair to blame the GOP-controlled legislature for this, but voters aren't looking for someone who hasn't been able to overcome obstacles.
It certainly wouldn't surprise me if Rendell is considered for the VP nomination. Although PA is a blue state, Democrats have carried it by decreasing margins in the past two elections. If that trend continues, they may need an extra boost to keep the Keysone State in their column.
Kerry, Bush, Gore, Clinton, Dole, Bush, Reagan, Carter... what were their great accomplishments? Name one great accomplishment from a president before he became president.
We haven't had a president with a great accomplishment since Eisenhower.
The reason why the Dems have been hurting in 00 and 04 is because the candidates aren't that great. Democrats only win the White House when they put up a really charismatic Dem, or the Republicans just feel like letting them play for a while.
Gore was a bore, and Kerry was a loosah. That's why they both (especially Kerry) barely carried the state.

Bush, for instance, reformed education in Texas, and he did it with the help of Democrats. When he ran for reelection in 1998, the Lt. Governor, who was a life-long Democrat, endorsed him.

He then "reformed education" nationwide with his asinine "No Child Left Behind" which in fact leaves many children behind.

Yet NCLB actually had bipartisan support. It passed the Senate 87-10.

I never claimed Democratic innocence on what should be referred to as Many Children Left Behind.
The Democratic Senators who voted in favour of it should be held accountable for their idiotic vote, but the fact is that Bush led the way in helping to worsen schools nation wide.

The national slide for the Dems was greater than that of PA, so i wouldn't really say were sliding all that much. True, whatever kinks the Dems have out in western PA need to be resolved and they need it fast. The gains in Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, and Delaware Counties can only go so far.
