On January 28, State Senator Robert Thomspon of the 19th SD passed away at age 68 of pulmonary fibrosis. He ended eleven years of service in the Senate on a sad note, having risen his way to Appropriations Chairman. I'm sure there will be no shortage of Republican interest in the pending special election nomination, but Democrats will have to scramble and possibly plead for a strong candidate. 2002 Congressional nominee Dan Wofford and Chesco Commissioner Andy Dinniman are both good possibilties to approach.
Dinniman ran and soundly defeated Chesco Commissioner Carol Aichele! She and the other Republican Commissioner, Don Mancini, had held meetings discussing county business behind Andy's back and made decisions in violation of the Sunshine Law.
