Hey GOP, if you think Rendell broke the law or violated ethics standards, then why tell him to stop fundraising. Outright tell him or the DGA to return the illegal contributions (BTW, if you think he's going to need money from the DGA, you're nuts... the guy is going to be able to raise more than 30 million without turning to out of state PACs). This is a classic case of trying to raise a big strink over nothing. The generalities of your party chair's comments are so carefully crafted so as to imply illegal/unethical behavior, but to also avoid the potential for a defamation lawsuit in the future. In short, political grandstanding.
Your grasping for straws and these straws won't give you any traction. The best way to beat Rendell is to find a credible challenger who can challenge him on the policy front. Your candidate tried the "corrupt Philly politician" in 2002 and it got him nowhere. Expect the same in 2006, especially since there are soo many public events to suggest that Rendell and the street administration barely even speak anymore.
A box of creampuffs are on their way to out wonderful governor. Hopefully, he will eat them all in one sitting , explode and then this will be a moot discussion.
Raising $2 million in one month, this far in advance of the election, shows that Rendell is going to be a force next year. The Republicans (whoever all decides to eventually run) will battle it out in the primary, and the one who comes out of it will probably be about $25 million short of Rendell (keep in mind that he already has nearly $10 million on hand). It will take a miracle for the Republicans to out do that next year, while also trying to keep Santorum in office...
