Can the Republicans not come up with anyone better than these 3? Geez, Piccola's a complete block of wood, Scranton's somewhat out of touch, and Swanny admitted he has absolutely no ideas.
With an opponent as horrible as Rendell, why isn't there anyone in the field who actually would bring a little enthusiasm, charisma and public speaking prowess to this race? Or are they waiting for 2010? That would indeed be disappointing. Or perhaps most prominent Republican lawmakers are too chummy with the socialist agenda to step up to the plate.
I'd heard Piccola & Scranton before (zzzzzz) and thought maybe Swann would bring some of his TVQ, but he obviously only rents it from ABC.
Please, please, please, Eileen - give me a true conservative with a bit of personality.

Most people are operating under the assumption that Rendell will most likely be reelected. No PA Governor who has sought reelection has failed. Rendell is fairly popular and has geographic advantage (he is popular in the Republican counties which surround Philadelphia). No one is going to give up a safe Congressional or State Senate seat to travel around the state for a long-shot campaign.
Well that's just fine with me, my arch-nemesis friend! Without you as our favorite whipping boy over there on Front Street, we'd have to shoulder the full blame for the crap that passes for legislation over here on Capitol Hill!
Quick, Smithers - send out a message on that new-fangled faxtrola machine: 4 more years for Ed and 4 more for me; a marriage made in heaven!
Pippy is running for Lt gov, which is a bold move b/c if he loses in the general election, he reduced to being a loser of a candidate on the statewide level (he could shake it, but it would take a few years of hard work), but if he wins he's instantly unbeatable. As for Ridge, I don't know what the legal decision would be. It's not stated in the state constitution what would happen and there is no legal precident to suggest what might happen. That would be entertaining to watch at the very least. As far as him getting elected, Ridge lost a lot of his luster when he went to a high profile Washington executive position. He might make a strong candidate, but he wouldn't be invinsible. Besides, didn't he say he was leaving washington b/c he could make more money in the private sector. Being governor pays roughly as much as being a cabinet secretary.
Lynn Swann is a friend of mine. Lynn Swann is a good man. We have an understanding. He likes football and I like football. Football is a good sport, just like Lynn Swann is a good man. Lynn Swann hates trrrists and I hate trrrists. Trrrists don't like football.
